Frequently asked questions

Short answers about the site, the data and the rules. Long answers live in the guides.

Using the site

How often are scores and tables updated?

Scores update continuously during play, and every league table is recalculated after the final whistle. Pages are cached for a few seconds, so a refresh always shows the latest state.

Is World Cup Live Scores free?

Yes. Every page — scores, tables, player profiles, stadium guides and explainers — is free and needs no account.

Do you cover the Malaysian league?

Our tables cover the big five European leagues, the Champions League and the World Cup. Malaysian and Asian football is covered through the World Cup hub and news coverage.

Understanding the data

What does FT, HT and LIVE mean?

FT is full time, HT is half time and LIVE marks a match in progress. A red minute next to a score shows how far the match has gone.

What is xG?

Expected goals estimates the probability that a shot becomes a goal, based on distance, angle, body part and the pressure on the shooter. A team with 2.4 xG and one goal has finished badly; a team with 0.6 xG and two goals has finished brilliantly.

What is a brace and a hat-trick?

A brace is two goals by the same player in one match. A hat-trick is three. A "perfect hat-trick" is one goal with the right foot, one with the left and one with the head.

Why does my club's table position differ from another site?

Tables are recalculated from results on this site. If another site shows a different position, it is usually because one of them has not yet applied the latest result or uses a different tiebreaker.

Competitions

How many teams are in the Champions League now?

Thirty-six. They play eight league-phase matches each in a single table; the top eight go straight to the round of 16 and places 9 to 24 enter a play-off.

How does promotion and relegation work?

In the Premier League, the bottom three are relegated to the Championship. The Championship's top two go up automatically and places three to six contest a play-off for the third spot.

What is an aggregate score?

Two-legged ties are decided by the combined score across both matches. If the aggregate is level, the tie goes to extra time and then penalties.

Are away goals still used?

No, UEFA abolished the away-goals rule in 2021. A 1-1 draw away is worth exactly the same as a 1-1 draw at home.

How does the 2026 World Cup work?

Forty-eight teams in 12 groups of four. The top two from each group plus the eight best third-placed teams reach a round of 32, then a straight knockout to the final on 19 July 2026.

Money and rules

What is PSR?

Profit and Sustainability Rules cap Premier League losses at £105 million over three years. Breaches are heard by an independent commission and can lead to points deductions.

When is the transfer window?

Most European leagues run a summer window from June to early September and a winter window through January. Free agents can be signed at any time.

Why are there five substitutions but only three windows?

The rule limits stoppages. Five changes can be made, but only in three separate breaks in play, plus one extra window in extra time.

Can I use your tables or data elsewhere?

You may quote short extracts with a link back to the page. Republishing full tables or scraping the site is not permitted.
